Or’ How To remove Trojan Horse
I have been doing Internet marketing long enough to remember when there was some sort of honor towards fellow marketers, you know that actually sounds old fashioned, but this week has shown me that values have been so eroded by the greed of so called marketing magnets that they will actually knowingly infect your site.
Yes I’m talking about the Deadly Back Door Trojan.
This week started of pretty well, I have been marketing a couple of products and although I haven’t had what you could call staggering results they were starting to tick along quite well and I had a good feeling about them.
On Tuesday my laptop was really sluggish and was running very hot , however I just thought that it was probably running a background scan so I went out for a while and left it to do its job.
When I returned it was just the same so I took peek at it and ran a few tests. Now, I was confident all was ok as I was running my fully paid up version of Kaspersky 2010, which if any thing is too sensitive towards viruses but on this occasion it never recognized two of the most deadly trojans, the reason being was I had inadvertently opened the door and let them in myself.
I had been trying to update one of my web tools that I use on a daily basis, but I was having a problem downloading the .exe setup file, so as I have been using it for over 4 months and never had a problem I emailed the support and asked if on this occasion he could attach the file to an email ” I must have left my brain somewhere” as it is something I would never do ordinarily but on this occasion I did. Even as I clicked to run it I had that nagging feeling in the pit of my stomach, but I clicked on it anyway and as quick as a flash the trojans were in.
Kaspersky did not warn me so I thought it was fine, now 3 days later and I have tried every antivirus program and spyware killer known to man but in the end I have had to do a complete hard disk restore. Lluckily I had my data backed up at the wonderful Mozy.
Anyway the moral here is “TRUST NO-ONE” and make sure you dont open anything that cant be checked thoroughly first. Oh and by the way I have now dumped Kaspersky, as I was recommended a different Antivirus/Firewall which is not overly sensitive yet is tough to get past.
If you’re interested I changed to ESET Smart Security 4 (not an affiliate link)
